Good read on your recent R&R Rhys in doing something you like of course ! Did I detect darkish sand on the beaches, which reminds us of 13 days in Bali, having just returned ! Unfortunately for an oldie surfer, the waves were a little dumperish which churned up the volcanic sand & few waves that one could trust! For me anyway!

However it was a great R&R for us, your Mum & others that went or were there with us ! Having made this same trip for near on 30 years now, the only things that has changed is the bigger influx of Aussies now including the usual very untidy yobbos which can spoil the place, but that's life anywhere overseas for the uneducated, but have returned in one piece, even after each of us having a fall here and there, with those roads & so called footpaths & high curbs that attack us ancient people! But we keep on going back, with a flight that only takes 3 & 1/2 hours anyway, before having our first frosty Bintang Beer & a surf if it pleases you?
The summer is almost in here Rhys with a couple of days @ 32 & 34o already, so, look out local waves here soon ! Keep it neat...
The grandies, Max & Barb...(Mandurah( via Perth.....West Oz, down under!

Great to know you have broken the non surfing boredom, working in London for a while Rhys & fancy discovering waves.....if you call them that on the coast of France? Wonders will never cease aye!
I thought Oz was the only place worthy of running a surfing comp with appropriate waves? Then again I am an old brigade surfer before travelling by plane overseas to find surf became popular also! One can always learn aye ? Keep up the exploring until you get back down under again, there is still plenty of big ones out the back here Mate ! Regards old surfer "Pop B"

Rhys, your visit to Cornwall was very interesting, but did you catch a wave down there? As you may know my early ancestors came from there, don't know if they were tin miners or not, but first settled in Ballarat a gold rush mining town in Victoria, Oz in the mid 1800's.then turned to West Aust at the turn of the century and with a name like "Blight," everybody here knew where they cam from aye "Blighty of course!"

Barb & I visited Cornwall in 1977 & actually stayed right at the very most southern tip overlooking the ocean & the only room available was in an attic, where we watched passing ships at night only spitting distance away from shore, quite eerie & were told later that the top room we had slept in was haunted?

We actually lived to tell the tale & then traveled north to Newcastle where we visited my wife's father's place of birth a Geordie..........so, she must also be one of those Northerners? Although she was born in a better place, Perth West Australia, likewise myself, where there is at least good surf and pure white sand at our beaches, as you know ! Cheers & have fun........From your kin, "The Old Blighters," down under. Max & Barb Blight
